At Gillard Studios, our child and family portrait sessions are all about connection, laughter, and love. A relaxed 1-2 hour studio session including:

A cinematic viewing appointment to select your favourite images for purchase.
Once your session has taken place we will arrange a viewing appointment for around one week later. At this appointment you will be able to select your favourite images and products for purchase.
A £100 deposit secures your space and will be deducted from your chosen package total.

When is the best time to book a family photography session?
Family sessions can take place at any time of year.
We recommend booking a few weeks in advance to secure your preferred date at our Pontypridd studio, particularly during busy periods such as autumn and Christmas.
If you’re planning your session around a special occasion or milestone, we’re happy to help you choose the perfect timing.
What should we wear for our family photos?
We always recommend simple, neutral tones that coordinate rather than match exactly.
Soft colours and minimal patterns create timeless images that won’t date. Once you’re booked, we’ll guide you with detailed styling advice to help everything come together beautifully.
Our aim is to create portraits that look elegant displayed in your home for years to come.
What if my children don’t sit still?
That’s completely normal - and expected.
We don’t expect children to sit perfectly still or smile on command. Our sessions are relaxed and child-led, allowing space for natural interaction and genuine expressions.
Some of the most treasured family photographs come from real moments rather than posed smiles.
With years of experience photographing families across Cardiff and South Wales, we know how to gently guide sessions while keeping everything calm and enjoyable. We're also experienced in working with children who have additional needs including ASD and ADHD.
My partner doesn’t like having photos taken - what do we do?
We hear this often!
Our sessions are designed to feel relaxed and natural, not stiff or overly posed. We guide you into comfortable positions and focus on connection rather than forced smiles.
Many reluctant partners leave saying they enjoyed the experience far more than they expected.
Where does the family session take place?
Family photography sessions take place at our studio in Pontypridd, South Wales, which is easily accessible from Cardiff, Caerphilly and surrounding areas.
Our studio offers a calm, welcoming environment designed to help families feel at ease.
How long does a family session last?
Family sessions typically last around 1-2 hours.
This allows plenty of time for a variety of groupings and natural moments, without it feeling overwhelming for younger children.
Can we include grandparents?
Yes - extended family sessions can be arranged. Even the cousins, aunties and uncles. Everyone is welcome.
If you’d like to include grandparents or multiple generations, please let us know when booking so we can allow appropriate time and plan the session accordingly.
How much does family photography cost?
Our family photography collections start from £399.
To secure your booking, we take a £100 deposit, which is deducted from your chosen collection after you have viewed your images.
Your session includes your time in the studio, professional editing, and a private viewing appointment where you can select your favourite photographs.
We offer a range of collections including digital images, fine art prints and bespoke wall art. Most families invest between £399 and £1,200, depending on the collection and artwork selected.
There is no need to choose a package before seeing your photographs, and flexible payment options are available.
